Welcome New Board Member

Chuck Meek, Managing Director of Solve for X, L3C

TCNewTech is fortunate to add Chuck Meek to their Board of Directors. As Managing Director of Solve for X, L3C he aligns Philanthropy, Private Capital, Academia, and Industry to fund and execute environmental R&D. Chuck’s volunteer board experience is significant and will serve TCNewTech well. Additionally, he is an Advisor at The University of Chicago — Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering where he mentors post-graduate researchers and post-doctorate scientists, helping them to reframe their esoteric thesis and dissertations in terms of private capital and industry audiences.

What inspired you to join the TCNewTech board?

I am keenly aware that an often overlooked aspect of any early stage company leader is the requirement that they master – or at least don’t tank – several disciplines and wear multiple hats: Finance, Operations, Marketing/Sales, People, and more. Eventually, he/she will have a team of lieutenants for each of these disciplines, but it’s vital to have access to advisors early on for guidance in designing and implementing strategies and tactics in each discipline. I believe TCNewTech is in a unique position to guide local tech entrepreneurs, and help them directly or indirectly with hard won experience. For me, this is an opportunity to pay forward a small portion of the help and guidance I have received over the years.

Outside of work, what do you like to do for fun?

Natives of northern Michigan, my wife and I moved back from Chicago in late 2020.  When I’m not patronizing the Traverse Area District Library or local bookstores, I am a very grateful hiker and biker throughout the state – from the terminal moraine in Clare, over the Mackinac Bridge, and through the Porcupines to the Keweenaw Peninsula.
