Coding as a Career (tccodes)

The recent IT Sector Report published by the State of Michigan lists software developers as the largest IT professional group with the most annual openings and the second highest salary range. Attend this session to learn more about demand, skills required, and workplace expectations. You will also work with other participants to create your first coding solution!

Who should attend
People who are curious, love to build things, and refuse to be defeated by a computer. No prior experience is required for this class.
Virtual session with a good balance of presentation and interaction. Space is limited to 10 participants.

- A career overview including employment outlook and wage data
- Ryan will share his experience as a developer and team lead including what it is like to be a virtual team member in northern Michigan
- A coding activity!
- Discussion about career pathways including contact information for local education and training options
About the presenters
Ryan Beaver, VP of Operations for Emphasys Software. Ryan assists in architecture, design, and roadmap development for core Emphasys development teams. He previously served as both Director of Development and Architect at Emphasys Software where he developed a healthy sense of self-doubt that encouraged an ongoing passion for self-study. Ryan is a graduate of Northwestern Michigan College and Ferris State University and has spent most of the past 20 years in the Traverse City area.
Keith E. Kelly, Program Manager – tccodes. Keith has been making things his entire life. In his earlier years, he created solutions using electronics and software. As his teaching career matured, Keith used the same problem-solving abilities to improve educational systems and curriculum. In addition to managing tccodes at 20Fathoms, Keith is a member of the faculty at Northwestern Michigan College where he teaches Engineering Technology and Marine Technology.
